Our Sports Ecosystem Stack

The Sports Ecosystem Stack (or Sports and Physical Activity – SAPA – Stack) is a conceptual and evaluative framework to holistically assess the actors and institutions making up a sports ecosystem. It is curated by the SAPA Centre, a policy-to-action centre for sports and physical activity, dedicated to linking credible data and insights, state-level implementation, and workforce development in order to increase daily movement, expand equitable participation, and strengthen the participation-to-performance pathway.

The Stack comprises seven discrete, yet interconnected and non-hierarchical layers that are critical to a thriving sports ecosystem. The model recognises that many connectors, handovers, and interfaces are required to create a thriving ecosystem that not only promotes and progresses talent and delivers excellence, but also sees sport participation as a public good in itself: an instrument of social and economic progress and individual and community growth.
